Communications Student Named Outstanding Intern

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, SEPT. 1, 2009
EKU Student from Ashland named Enterprise Outstanding Summer Intern
RICHMOND, Ky. – An Eastern Kentucky University senior has been named by Enterprise Rent A Car as Outstanding Summer Intern for 2009.
Ashley Hutchinson, a communications studies major from Ashland, worked this summer as an intern/co-op for the Enterprise branch on the Eastern By-Pass in Richmond. She competed with others throughout the Enterprise region, which also includes Lexington, Frankfort, Georgetown, Louisville, Hopkinsville and southern Indiana.
This is the second consecutive year that an EKU intern captured the top prize. The award is based on a point system that considers sales, referrals and customer satisfaction surveys. Hutchinson received the highest-ever point total for the regional intern award. According to Hutchinson, "Enterprise gave me the chance to be successful and to prove who I am. But my communication classes gave me the skills and direction to succeed in anything I chose to do."
This past spring, Hutchinson held a co-op position with the Richmond Chamber of Commerce. She is also a participant in the University’s TRiO Student Support Services Program, NOVA.
“The NOVA staff is very proud of Ashley,” said Stephen Haggerty, assistant director.
Hutchinson, who plans to graduate in December, is currently serving as an event planner for the EKU Department of Communication.
